SHARJAH: Two Chinese cricketers are set to join the Peshawar Zalmi squad on Thursday for the tenth match of the Pakistan Super League 2018 in Sharjah.
Jian Li and Yuffie Zhang were recruited by the Zalmi in an effort to promote cricket in China, the team’s China representative, Amir Suhail Afridi told APP on Tuesday.
“We will provide them with a platform to recognise their talent and motivate them to achieve international recognition,” he said.
The team is set to play a match against the Quetta Gladiators in Sharjah on Thursday.
China Zalmi was represented by cricketers from China, a majority of whom were selected from the Pakistani Community Keqiao.
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi not only awarded the winning team $10,000 but also allowed two of its players to participate in a practice session with senior team members.
The Zalmi, the defending champions, have won only one of their three matches and are placed in the fourth spot among the six PSL teams. Karachi Kings is on the top of the table with six points. Following Multan Sultans with 4 points. Gladiators are third. Lahore Qalandars are at bottom as they failed to register their first win in PSL third edition.
In the game played on Monday Karachi Kings easily defeated Qalandars by 27 runs.
Shahid Afridi was awarded Man of the match as he was seen very impressive with the ball in the game against Qalandars. Boom Boom Afridi finished his spell with figures of 3 for 19 in four overs.
