LONDON: On Monday, Saeed Ajmal conducted the charge as Worcestershire forced by Derbyshire to secure their second County Championship victory of the season at New Road.
Worcester spinner Ajmal cleaned up Essex’s first innings with six for 75 as the visitors revolved their overnight 52 for two into 203 all out on the second day.
Saeed, 36, seized six wickets for 75 in his 26.2 testing overs to help his side released Essex for 203 in their first innings in reply to Worcestershire’s first innings total of 291 at County Ground, New Road.
Spinner Jigar Naik asserted 3-76 but eighth-wicket pair Stewart Walters (57no) and John Glover (19no) batted throughout the last hour to see Glamorgan to safety.
Glamorgan finished on 250-7 chasing 321 for victory over Leicestershire at Grace Road. Jacques Rudolph (63) and Murray Goodwin (50) hit half-centuries before a middle-order collapse put Glamorgan in trouble at 204-7.
Saeed, a veteran of 33 Tests and 110 One-day Internationals, is on a short stint with Worcestershire before he joins the Pakistan squad for the tour of Sri Lanka that is scheduled to pop out on Aug 2.
