Web Desk: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched Mobile Devices Identification, Registration and Blocking Regulation System (DIRBS) system to block the stolen and smuggled phones in country.
According to details, the new system uses the distinct IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of each device, along with other parameters, to help in identifying, monitoring and regulating such devices.
The announcement was made by Chairman Muhammad Naveed as the organisation celebrates crossing a milestone 50 million broadband subscribers.
PTA also introduces a Device Verification System (DVS) for the public. People can now access it through its website and enable users to check whether their devices are stolen or legit.
In the first phase, stolen and lost devices would be blocked, while in the second phase devices that are in people’s use will be inspected.
The (DIRBS) system would be beneficial in Pakistan as this type of system is already being implemented in other countries which have shown positive outcomes.
