ATC issues notices to plaintiff, prosecutor on Anees Qaimkhani’s bail plea

KARACHI: Anti-terrorism court has issued notices to complainant and special public prosecutor on Pak Sarzameen Party’s Anees Qaimkhani’s bail petition, reported Saturday.

The court stated that it was appellate court’s jurisdiction to grant bail.

Qaimkhani’s counsel said that his client is a politician and has done jail time in the past for unjust reasons. The authorities are digging up 15 year old cases now, he said adding that Qaimkhani has never had links with terrorists.

He has not been arrested in any terror case and police were now nabbing him for other cases.

The court adjourned the hearing until July 27 and issued notices.

On the other hand, Abdul Qadir Patel’s counsel, Qadir Khan Mandokhel has pleaded to the court to grant B-class prison to his client and provide medical facilities.

Patel is a former member of National Assembly and should be given B-class, he urged the court also stating that he suffers from high blood pressure and backache.

Accused in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain’s terror facilitation case, Qaimkhani, PPP s Patel, MQM’s mayoral candidate Waseem Akhtar and Rauf Siddique were denied extension in interim bails by the ATC this week and were detained.

The accused have filed bail pleas in the court but none of them have been entertained until today.

They are accused of requesting Dr Asim to provide medical treatment and shelter to terrorists and target killers in his hospital called Dr Ziauddin Hospital.

The former petroleum minister had named them during interrogation before the joint investigation team.
