Avenfield Reference: Maryam records statement, says JIT report as evidence not admissible

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, erstwhile prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif recorded her statement in the accountability court.


She denied the JIT and its report, calling it irrelevant in the Avenfield Property case filed by the National Accountability Bureau(NAB) on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

During the hearing, Maryam Nawaz told the accountability court that report prepared by the JIT is an investigative document. It is not admissible before the court.

Maryam also claimed that the apex court gave instructions that the references should be made by NAB on the evidences provided by JIT,  but the report can not be made an evidence by itself.

She expressed concerns over the appointment of Irfan Mangi as director general of National Accountability Bureau was still under hearing at Supreme Court. He is still made part of the investigation team.

Nawaz Sharif has already recorded his statement in the case. During the last three days, He denied any involvement in the Avenfield properties. He also denied any business dealings with the Qatari family, Capital FZE, and Dubai Steel Mills.

On Wednesday’s hearing, Nawaz Sharif claimed that challenges against him increased as soon as the treason case was initiated against General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf.
