Bilawal asks alleged dual standards over Tareen press conference and Zardari’s interview censorship

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday slammed the joint press conference held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Jehangir Tareen along with the minister for agriculture Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan.

“Convicted disqualified deputy PM is addressing the nation,” said Bilawal in a direct reference to Jahangir Tareen who was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan from holding the public office and de-seating his National Assembly seat in December 2017 under the article 62 and 63 of the constitution.

Jahangir Tareen along with the minister for Agriculture addressed the press conference which brought irk of PPP’s  Chairman, who questioned the alleged dual-standards: one for his father–Asif Ali Zardari and other for PTI leader.

A day earlier, reportedly former President-Zardari’s interview to the private news channel was stopped from airing at the last minute which was taken as the censorship on the freedom of expression.

The debate then started over the right of an accused to give interviews over the corruption allegations when he/she is incarcerated.

Few believed that since Ehsanullah Ehsan- ex-spokesperson of outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan confession can be aired then why not Zardari’s interview- who happened to be  the former president of Pakistan and yet to be convicted.

Zardari presently is under the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody over the fake Bank Accounts cases.

Moreover, Bilawal went on to claim that dual standards in Naya Pakistan are the standards of hypocrites.

“Falsely accused not convicted former president’s interview censored. Yeh hain NayaPakistan, Munafiq’on ka Pakistan, Aik nahi do Pakistan,” regretted Bilawal.
