LHASA (China): China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will provide an excellent opportunity to both China and Pakistan to further promote and enhance people to people exchanges and cultural engagements in the days to come.
“China and Pakistan are all-weather friends and strategic partners and I am sure that there will be a bright future of people to people exchange and cultural engagements under the CPEC between two countries,” Director, Information Office, Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Jigme Wangtso told APP on the sideline of the fourth China Tibet Tourism and Culture Expo organized to attract more local and foreign tourists in the historical and cultural city of Lhasa.
He informed the local government of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China had successfully implemented various policies of the central government to enhance tourism and during the last five years, the number of tourists was increased from 15 million to 25 million last year.
He said the local government had also chalked out a comprehensive strategy to make the Tibet Autonomous Region a world-class tourist destination and for this purpose, was upgrading infrastructure and other related facilities for attract more and more tourists.
Earlier, Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Standing Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Bian Ba Zhaxi said the local government was implementing strategy of President Xi Jinping to make Tibet a tourism and cultural hub of China.
He said the population of Tibet was around one million in six decades ago but now it had reached to around 3.3 million while life expectancy rate had also increased from 36 years to 68 years.
Terming Tibet integral part of China, he said the local Tibeten and Hans Chinese had same roots and they were one nation and they were living in complete harmony and actively taking part in the development area and prosperity of the people.
Bian Ba Zhaxi said “Tibet Autonomous Region had witnessed a tremendous development during last 60 years and its GDP growth rate had risen from one million RMP in 1951 to 130 billion RMB in 2017”, adding “Tibet had been registering a double digit economic growth during last 23 years which was highest in China.”
He said that Tibet had a unique geographic importance as it had borders with Kashmir, India, Nepal and Bhutan and was famously known as the “roof of the world” and the “third pole of the earth”.
He said that Tibet has a lot of potential to enhance the synergy between culture and tourism to increase the comparative advantages and promote mutual prosperity of both culture and tourism.
The Member CPC Standing Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region informed that the foreign diplomats based in China, Chinese government officials, representatives of local and foreign state-owned enterprises and representatives of different media organizations attended the expo this year.
In 2017, China’s Tibet received more than 25 million visits of tourists, and its total tourism revenue reached 37.937 billion yuan.
At present this region is going through one of its best period of development and stability in history, with well-developed science, harmonious and stable society, united ethnic groups, improvement of people’s livelihood, religious harmony and sound ecology.
Located in the southwest of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Tibet Autonomous Region is adjacent to four provinces including Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan within the country and borders four foreign countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar, along with the region of Kashmir.
