Grand maestro Ustad Amanat Ali Khan remembered on his 44th death anniversary

LAHORE: The 44th death anniversary of legendary classical singer Ustad Amanat Ali Khan was observed in Lahore and other cities of country.

Amanat Ali Khan was born in 1932 in Sham Chaurasi, Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Soon after independence, he moved to Pakistan. The ‘ghazals’ sung by him aired by Radio Pakistan Lahore Station had become quite popular among the public.

The notable singer of the Patiala Gharana Ustad Amanat Ali Khan was a master of three musical forms: the raga, the thumri, and the ghazal.

The renowned Patiala Gharana, who has a long history of music in Pakistan, arranged the annual gathering in Lahore to pay tribute to the late singer.

The hosts include his son Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, brother Ustad Hamid Ali Khan among other family members.

His prominent Ghazals include; Insha ji Utho, Honton py kahi un kay, yeh arzoo thi tujhy, ay watan pyary watan, Umran Lagiyan and other.

At the age of 52, Ustaad Amanat Ali passed away from this world, leaving behind an irreparable loss to the music of the subcontinent.

He was conferred with the ‘Pride of Performance’ award by the Government of Pakistan.
