More arrests to be made as Shahbaz arrest is the first: Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: On Friday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry hinted that Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) President Shehbaz Sharif’s arrest is the first in a series of further arrests that are to follow.

Commenting on Shehbaz’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with the Ashiana Company case, Chaudhry said, “This is the first arrest of several prominent arrests.”

On Friday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former chief minister of Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) president Shehbaz Sharif in ‘Ashiana Housing Scandal Scheme’.

Whereas, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb remarked the arrest of PML(N) president a politically motivated step.

According to Newsone, the PML (N) president and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif was arrested as he appeared before the NAB headquarters in Lahore, today.

However, different news channel reported that the arrest has not been formally made as the anti graft watch dog has sought National Assembly’s speaker permission for the formal arrest of Shehbaz.

For now time being Shehbaz has been detained.

Whereas, Punjab Information Minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan has also confirmed the news pertaining to Sharif arrest.

Later today he will be presented before the Accountability Court.

Heavy contingents of Rangers have been deployed at the Accountability Court.

The accountability watchdog had alleged that Shehbaz Sharif had misused his authority during his tenure as Punjab chief minister and was involved in corruption.

Shahbaz’s blue-eyed officers, Lahore Development Authority former director general Ahad Cheema and Fawad Hasan Fawad, are already in NAB custody in the Ashiana Housing case.
