Lahore: On Thursday, Punjab Assembly has elected Chauhdry Pervez Elahi as the speaker of Punjab Assembly.
According to media reports, Pervez Elahi secured 201 votes, whereas Chaudhry Iqbal from Pakistan Muslim League ( Nawaz) secured 147 votes.
Pervez Elahi, who is ex-Chief Minister Punjab was supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid e Azam) and other independents.
Following the speaker election, the chief minister Punjab will be elected by the provincial assembly. .
For the slot of deputy speaker, PTI has nominated Dost Mazari who will be up against PML-N’s Malik Muhammad Waris Kallu.
Amid opposition disarray, Pakistan Peoples Party said on Wednesday it will not vote for any party’s candidate and will abstain from the voting process for the post of speaker and deputy speaker.
