ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a notice to Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz over NAB’s plea to suspend the Islamabad High Court’s verdict.
On Monday, NAB had filed the petition in the top court challenging an earlier decision by the Islamabad High Court suspending sentences given to Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the petition today, and issued notices to the former premier and his daughter.
The court observed that it would not take notice of the appeal against Captain (retd) Safdar’s sentence suspension, since his prison term was only one year.
The bench then adjourned the hearing of the petition till November 6 as court issued notices to Nawaz and Maryam.
The Islamabad High Court suspended Avenfield verdict given by Accountability Court to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (R) Safdar for failing to prove their money trail in corruption reference.
