Yousuf Raza Gilani back in electoral politics, as he contest for NA-158 Multan

MULTAN: The appellate tribunal on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf worker seeking the tribunal to reject nomination papers of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, as the latter is contesting polls from- NA 158 Multan on the ticket of Pakistan People’s Party.


Yousuf Raza Gilani, who remained the premier of Pakistan from 2008 uptil 2012 was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan after his conviction in contempt of court charges.

The verdict barred him to contest elections for 5 years, therefore he fielded his own son in 2013 elections, who lost to Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) in his own home constituency.

On June 10th, Gilani himself appeared before the Returning Officer(RO) as he submitted his nomination paper and replying the objections raised against him.
