KARACHI: On Saturday, former president Asif Ali Zardari, who is facing on going Federal Investigation agency (FIA) probe over alleged money laundering, said what can we say in a country where the chief justice conducts raids.
Responding to a question regarding Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar’s surprise visit to Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharjeel Inam Memon’s hospital room, Zardari said, “What can we say in a country where the chief justice conducts raids.”
Speaking to reporters outside a local banking court in Karachi, Zardari had come to submit bail bonds after having secured interim bail in a money laundering case a day earlier.
The former president furnished bail bonds of Rs2 million and signed documents.
Pakistan Peoples Party leader Sharjeel Memon was transferred to Karachi Central Jail following the recovery of 3 bottles of liquors and drugs by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar in his hospital room during a surprise visit.
The chief justice made surprise visit to three hospitals including Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital – located at Clifton- to visit ailing political prisoners.
The chief justice visited the Mr. Memon’s room, which had been declared sub-jail, and reportedly stayed there for two to three minutes to inquire his heath, after visiting different wards.
The stuff was confiscated by the court upon recovery.
The chief justice revealed that three bottles of alcohols were found in Sharjeel Memon’s room after returning to SC’s Karachi Registry while hearing hearing a case.
He stated that when he was inquired about the recovered bottles, and he refused to accept that the bottles belonged to him.
“The attorney general should visit and see what is happening,” he added.
