New Delhi: Lt General Dalbir Singh Suhag who served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, has been appointed as the new Army Chief as General Bikram Singh retires from his post. Suhag is the 26th Army Chief and for the rest 30 months from now, he will serve as the new chief in the Indian Army.
As per reports, Bikram Singh will be bid farewell today at a ceremony. Suhag will now, take over as the Army Chief of the 1.3 million strong, Indian Army. He takes charge as the new chief after a prolonged controversy over his appointment as the new Army Chief.
In the month of May, Suhag was chosen as the Army Chief by the previous government who had ignored the protest against his appointment by the former Army Chief and the current Union Minister General VK Singh.
Proud parents of Suhag, Ram Phal and Eshari Suhaga are very happy about the appointment of their son to the highest post in the Army.
Talking to a leading daily, Suhag’s father expressed his happiness by saying “Earlier there was a time when I used to salute senior officers. Today my son is at the highest position and I am very happy. I want him to serve the country and take the Indian Army to a different level. He may have been in controversies but I know he is clean and clear.”
