Johannesburg: Kaneria’s request against life-ban for match-fixing dismissed by London High Court

The London High Court has reportedly upheld former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria‘s life ban imposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for match-fixing in 2010.

The camera was blocked by the ECB, in a ban subsequently applied globally by the ICC, for encouraging Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield to ‘deliberately concede’ runs in an English county limited overs match against Durham in 2010.

According to Sport24, although Kaneria took legal action, claiming that the jury had been wrong both to maintain the life ban and to enjoin him to pay ECB legal costs of 339 000 dollars, however, the tribunal stated that the ECB disciplinary panel had not exceeded its powers and that there were no evidence for suggesting an error of law had been arrived at.

Kaneria was not present at Tuesday’s hearing, with a lawyer telling the court he was in Pakistan, the report added. (ANI)
